What is Trigger Point Dry Needling
Trigger Point Dry Needling (TDN) is a new practice making headway across the nation in physical therapy clinics. This tool or technique uses very thin acupuncture sized needles inserted into trigger points of muscles to help release tension and pain. Trigger points are classified as hyperactive parts of a muscle that are constantly firing and will not release. These points are usually very tender to palpation and can also refer pain to other areas when pressure is applied.
TDN saves the time of having to dig into knots via soft tissue mobilization/massage of the muscle and usually provides quick relief. All of the therapists at Atlas Physical Therapy are certified to perform TDN and there is no extra cost associated. Ask your therapist if this is a tool that would be beneficial in your treatment regiment.
